Would you ever celebrate the return of someone who broke your heart, who caused you so much grief – whether through their actions or through their words? In a world where we tend to be led by emotion, that is a hard thing to do.
Yet, in Luke 15 – The Parable of the Lost Sheep – God shows us that no matter how much we hurt Him, how much we offend Him, or how difficult we think we make it for Him to love us – He still loves us without condition. God does not cease to fight for us. He continues to seek us and once we are found, He embraces us, He carries our burdens, our sins and sets a table for us in celebration of our return – no questions asked.
This parable resonates so much with me, because I was that lost sheep. There was a time when I did not understand God’s love -I remember thinking, “I am sinner, I’ve hurt the One that breathed life into me and I’ve hurt the One that died for me! How could He love me without conditions? How could He love me the same way He loves The 99, the ones that do obey Him, that do follow Him. I am nowhere like them.”
Nevertheless, His Grace and Love is sufficient. It is because He Is LOVE, that He send JESUS TO DIE FOR US, that He continues to fight for our love, for our salvation even when we do not deserve it. It is because of Grace and Love that Jesus CONTINUES to intervene for us reminding us that he bears our sins and weaknesses when we surrender it all to Him. It is because We are Just Like The 99 & the 99 Just Like Us, sinners in need of a savior, His children nonetheless – that God will CHASE US DOWN even when we do not know Him…because WE ARE SO LOVED!
